Market stall at Castle Farm displaying food products

Local producers and farmers markets

This corner of Kent puts on a mouthwatering show for foodies – as you’d expect from the Garden of England!

Drop into any of the independent shops and delis in the district’s towns and villages and you’ll find a range of local specialities. You can even pick them up directly from the producers. The Hop Shop at Castle Farm, near Shoreham, sells its own range of lavender and hop products (visit in July for the spectacular sight of the hillside striped purple with lavender), as well as a variety of food, drink and crafts from other local producers.

Local craft beers produced by Larkins, in Chiddingstone, and Westerham are sold in pubs and restaurants across Sevenoaks district, and you can sample Westerham’s brews at their Tap Room & Shop.

While you’re in Westerham, don’t miss the chance to tour Squerryes’ beautiful North Downs vineyard and taste their extraordinary, gold medal-winning wines. Book a table at one of the estate’s restaurants to really soak up the experience.

For a mouthwatering display of proudly Kent produce, and a chance to chat with the makers, head to a local farmers market. Knockholt Farmers’ Market is held outside Coolings Garden Centre on the fourth Saturday of every month. The rows of colourful tents shelter a photogenic array of local produce, from vegetarian Bombay aloo Scotch eggs to pretty patisserie and handmade cold-pressed soaps.
